Innovative Sclerotherapy in South Carolina
IF YOU HAVE UNWANTED SPIDER VEINS, SCLEROTHERAPY IS PERFECT FOR YOU!
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a treatment to get rid of unsightly spider veins on legs or around the ankles. An FDA approved drug called Asclera is injected and causes the vein to close.
Does it hurt?
A topical numbing agent may be applied 15 minutes prior to the procedure upon request. You may experience a slight burning sensation or cramping for a few minutes where the injection was given.
How long does it take?
The procedure can take 15 minutes to 1 hour, depending on how many veins are treated and how large they are. You may need a series of treatments to achieve the desired results.
Preparing for Treatment
You may bring your own compression stockings to your visit, or you can purchase directly from our office for $39/pair. If you would like to purchase compression stockings in-office we will measure you at your consultation visit. If you purchase your own, we recommend 20-30mmHg (firm) stockings. Thigh-high stockings if you have veins above the knee or knee-high stockings if your veins are below the knee. Plan to wear loose, comfortable clothes. You may want to bring shorts to wear during the procedure. Don’t use any lotion on your legs before the procedure.
Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment.
You will be given instructions following your procedure. Walking after the treatment is encouraged; however, there should be no vigorous exercise for 2 weeks. You will be given a follow-up appointment, at which time your progress will be assessed and plan for ongoing care. Long-term prevention strategy is “nose-to-toes” leg elevation technique for at least 30 minutes daily.
